June 17th marks the start of this year’s Nantucket Film Festival. Founded in 1996 by brother and sister duo Jill and Jonathan Burkhart, the Nantucket Film Festival is a unique Nantucket event that attracts many visitors and celebrities to the island for special screenings, awards, and programs.
In its 15th year, the Nantucket Film Festival will run until June 20, 2010. As in previous years, this year’s festival will feature cutting edge films and a remarkable group of special guests including Zach Galifiankis, Andy Samberg, Sarah Silverman, Ben Stiller, and many more.
One of the most popular events during the festival is the All Star Comedy Roundtable. Presented by Nantucket Film Festival board member Ben Stiller, this year’s Roundtable will include Zach Galifiankis, Andy Samberg, and Sarah Silverman and will take place at Nantucket High School. Those in attendance can expect a night of laughter and pure entertainment from these comedic heavy hitters.
Many wonderful films make their debut at the festival each year. The Academy Award nominated film The Hurt Locker debuted last summer and this year the animated film Toy Story 3 will debut on opening night. Other film highlights of this year’s Nantucket Film Festival are The Extra Man, Nowhere Boy, Freedom Riders, Waiting for “Superman,” and Get Low.
